I'm Amanda Magnani, OptOut’s Climate Editor, a job that gives me hope and purpose. 

Climate change is the biggest crisis of our times, transversal to everything that happens in the world, from politics and economy to fashion and leisure. Yet, there's still too much mis- and disinformation surrounding it. In spite of all the scientific evidence, mainstream and traditional media are too often not brave enough to be firm in reporting on it as the existential crisis that it is. Working with a network of independent outlets who don't shy away from tackling the climate crisis is refreshing.

More than that, I appreciate that OptOut is a place where, as a journalist from the Global South, I can address the climate crisis from a decolonial lens, bringing a new perspective to our audiences. 

As recent extreme events have made extra clear, the way the climate crisis affects us, and the way society is able to respond to them, is deeply intertwined with the state of our democracies. 

And there is no possibility of democracy without independent and accurate information. As the first news aggregation app for exclusively independent media, OptOut plays a crucial role in making this information reach a wider audience. But we need your help in order to continue doing this work.
