OptOut of the Corporate Media Tonight!
Written by:
Hello there, OptersOut!
Finally, after a 114-year election season, it’s Election Day. That could mean you’re deciding which cable news giant you’ll turn to for the results and painful “both-sides” political analysis.
Well, I’ve got some good news for you. You don’t have to watch CNN, MSNBC, or any of these other corporate channels! Thankfully, many of our excellent independent media partners—whom you’ll get to track on our forthcoming nonprofit news aggregator app—are doing livestreams this evening.
Here are some great options for you:
Discourse Blog
Join the Discourse Blog staff and some cool special guests—including OptOut partners Kim Kelly and The Insurgents’ Jordan Uhl—on their Twitch stream.
7pm ET
Katie Halper and Matt Taibbi
Follow along with their drinking game if you’re in need of libations. (Walker and I will be doing this. Don’t hold our tweets against us, please!)
8pm ET
Status Coup: Live from Pennsylvania
Stay tuned to Status Coup’s YouTube channel for a livestream from the state that may decide the election. (Keep in mind that we won’t know the final results from all states tonight, and Pennsylvania is still subject to lawsuits from vote suppressers. The Supreme Court may in the near future decide on whether the state can count ballots received after today. See my article at the Center for Media and Democracy for more on this.)
Office Hours Live
Office Hours Live will be doing some typically very serious election coverage starting at 8pm ET.
Champagne Sharks
Champagne Sharks host Trevor Beaulieu tells me he’ll be on Twitch tonight discussing music with intermittent election updates.
Tune in here at 9pm ET.
ALSO:
Find OptOut partners The Humanist Report, David Doel (The Rational National), Matt Binder, and The Insurgents’ Rob Rousseau on The Serfs’ live cast starting at 6:30 ET.
Jacobin publisher Bhaskar Sunkara will be on The Real News tonight.
Aaron Thorpe of our newest partner, A Time of Monsters, will be on the Not Safe For Wonks stream starting at 7pm ET.
I am sure this list is not complete! Follow our Twitter, where we’ll send out any additional OptOut partner links tonight.
Everyone, take care out there, and let’s hope fascism takes a big hit tonight.
