Misinformation is a killer.

Dear Supporter,
I’d like to start out by saying your contributions are our backbone. We could not have survived our first year as AJI without our AJI and Important Context subscribers and donors. I’m reaching out again because we are at a critical time, both as an organization and as a country.
The United States is facing an unprecedented rise in skepticism toward science and medicine. What is often dismissed as an organic post-pandemic cultural shift is actually the result of a sophisticated and well-funded campaign aimed at dismantling trust in America’s public health and democratic institutions. This effect has rippled worldwide, bolstering anti-vax movements and putting communities at risk of preventable disease.
As newsrooms face budget cuts, sustained investigative coverage of anti-science groups and the funding networks behind them has thinned. Worse, misinformation and unsupported fringe narratives have a way of working their way into mainstream coverage.
AJI was founded to course-correct.
With our small, dedicated team and a shoestring budget, we have been able to specialize in this critical niche, producing groundbreaking and void-filling investigative reporting. Although we do not produce the quantity of stories larger outlets are able to muster, we are nimble and pick up on threads that get missed.
Misinformation is a killer and for that reason, we do not paywall our stories exposing the interests behind. We believe that the information we uncover needs to be accessible to all.
The flip side of that, however, is that in order to continue this work, we urgently need to raise funds. Journalism like this takes resources and time to produce. Each meticulous report requires days—sometimes weeks—of research, writing, fact-checking and editing.
Making a one-time or recurring donation to AJI is the best way to ensure misinformation spreaders don’t get to continue to throw the health of our communities under the bus to serve their greed—at least not without facing accountability
Do you support our mission to expose disinformation and help science fight back?
Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Olivia Riggio, Deputy Director
